Ende des Jahres 1942 kämpft der Gefreite Lombos Mihály als Teil der Königlich-Ungarischen Armee. Er ist überzeugt von der Sache, ein Patriot, der niemals aufgibt und immer wieder zur Waffe greift, um den Kampf fortzusetzen. Doch eines Tages wird er bei den Gefechten verwundet und muss sich über Nacht in einem Schützengraben in feindlichem Gebiet verstecken. Am Morgen wird er dort entdeckt und landet in sowjetischer Gefangenschaft, wo für ihn die Hölle beginnt. Als sogenannter „Minen-Trampler“ muss er nun über verminte Felder laufen, um so die versteckten Bomben aufzuspüren. Es scheint, als wäre Lombos dieses Mal dem Tod geweiht
