A kezdetleges mászó felszerelés azonban a két tapasztalt mászónak is kevés a sikerhez… A politika itt is közbeszól. Svájcban, a Berner Oberlandon van az Eiger Nordwand nevű szinte függőleges, 1800 méteres fal, amit soha eddig senki meg nem mászott. (1936-ban a nyugati alpok utolsó meg nem mászott hegye volt.)
